Account credit

Top up your balance so renewal invoices are paid from credit before any card is charged. Limits, what it cannot be used for, and the ledger.

Account credit is money held on your account. It is applied automatically to your next invoices, before any card is charged.

Open Balance in the client area.

Add credit

  1. Pick one of the amounts: $10, $25, $50, $100 or $250. Or choose Custom and type your own.
  2. Pay through Stripe.

The minimum is $5 and the maximum in one go is $5,000.

The credit lands on your balance within a few seconds of the payment clearing, and you get a Discord message with the new balance.

How it is spent

  1. A renewal invoice is issued before the current term ends.
  2. Any available account credit is applied to it, oldest credit first.
  3. Whatever remains is charged to the payment method on file.
  4. The service renews and the next expiry date moves forward one cycle.

So credit does not have to cover a whole invoice. If an invoice is larger than your balance, the balance is used and the rest goes on your card.

What it cannot do

It is not refundable. Credit cannot be paid back out to a card or a bank account. Only add what you expect to spend here.

It never expires. There is no clock on it.

It is not applied to a first payment. When you order something new, you pay the full amount through Stripe. Credit goes against renewal invoices, not new orders. The checkout page tells you so if you have credit sitting there.

Discount codes do not apply to a top up. Those only work on a new order, on the Stripe page.

Why you would use it

  • You want one payment a quarter instead of four, without committing to a quarterly term.
  • You would rather not leave a card on file, but you also do not want to miss a renewal.
  • Someone else is paying for your hosting and you want them to top up rather than hand over a card.

Four readings sit at the top of the page: Available, Topped up, Applied and Outstanding.

The ledger

Credit ledger in the sidebar shows every top up and every time credit was drawn against an invoice, in order. Use it to check where a balance went.

If a top up does not appear

The page shows a banner when a payment is confirmed, and another if you left the Stripe page without paying. If you cancelled, nothing was charged.

Some payment methods take a few minutes to settle. If it still has not appeared after that, email [email protected] and tell us roughly when you paid.
