Game and app servers

The file manager

Browse your game server's files, edit configuration in the browser, upload mods and plugins, and download what you need to keep.

The Files tab shows the server's files the way they sit on disk. You can read them, edit them, rename them, delete them, make folders, upload and download.

Getting around

The breadcrumb at the top starts at Server root. Click a folder to go into it, click a crumb to come back out.

Text files are clickable and open in an editor. Anything else shows as plain text with a grey icon, because there is nothing useful the browser can do with it. Download those instead.

Editing a file

Click a text file. It opens in an editor filling the panel. Make your change, then click Save.

  • Save writes it to the server. You are reminded to restart for the change to take effect.
  • Undo changes puts the file back to what it was when you opened it.
  • Close leaves the editor. If you have unsaved edits it asks first.

Files up to 512 KB open in the editor. Anything larger has to be downloaded, changed on your own machine and uploaded again.

Uploading

Click Upload and pick one or more files. They go into the folder you are looking at.

An upload can be up to 100 MB at a time. Larger files, or a lot of them at once, need to be split up.

Only the person who owns the service can upload. Someone the server was shared with can browse, edit, rename and delete, but the upload button will not work for them.

Downloading

Click the download icon on a row. It downloads that one file.

There is no way to download a whole folder at once. For that, take a backup and download the backup instead.

Making a folder

Click New folder, type a name and click Create folder. It is created inside the folder you are looking at. No slashes, up to 128 characters.

Renaming

Click the rename icon on a row, type the new name and confirm. No slashes, up to 255 characters.

Renaming does not update anything that points at the old name. A config line or a startup flag that mentions the old file keeps mentioning it, so check those afterwards.

Deleting

Click the bin icon on a row, or tick several rows and use Delete selected. You confirm first.

A folder goes with everything inside it. Nothing deleted here can be recovered unless it is in a backup.

Up to 100 items at a time.

What this page cannot do

Be aware of these before you plan around them.

  • No compressing or extracting. You cannot make a zip here, and you cannot unpack one. Unpack archives on your own machine and upload the contents, or use a command on the console if your game offers one.
  • No moving files between folders. Rename cannot contain a slash. Download and re-upload, or do it from the console.
  • No copying, and no changing file permissions.
  • No pulling a file from a web address.

Files worth knowing

Where configuration lives depends on your game. A few common ones:

GameFile
Minecraftserver.properties, ops.json, whitelist.json
FiveMserver.cfg
Rustthe startup settings, not a file. See Startup settings

Log files usually sit in a logs folder. Those are the place to look when the console has already scrolled past what you needed.

If you would rather use a desktop client

There is an SFTP section on the Settings tab, but the password side of it is not set up. See Server settings and file access for exactly where that stands and how to ask us about it.
