Game and app servers

Your game server at a glance

What each tab of a game or app server does, where the power buttons are, and how to read the overview page.

Open Services in the client area and click your server. You land on Overview.

The tabs

A game or app server has fourteen tabs down the left side.

TabWhat it is for
OverviewPower buttons, live usage and shortcuts to everything else
ConsoleThe live output, and a box to type commands
FilesBrowse, edit, upload and download the server's files
BackupsCopies of every file, which you can restore
StartupThe settings the game reads when it launches
SchedulesTasks that run on their own, such as a nightly restart
NetworkWhere players connect, and your spare ports
DatabasesMySQL databases for plugins and mods
PlanWhat your plan reserves for this server
TeamPeople who share the server with you
SettingsThe server's name, file access and the runtime
ActivityWho did what, with times
Add-onsExtra memory, ports, databases and backup slots
BillingThe renewal date, the amount and the invoices

If someone shared the server with you rather than you buying it, you will not see Plan, Add-ons or Billing, and you will only see the tabs you were given permission for.

The header

Above the tabs is the server's name, the plan it runs on, the city it sits in and the address. On the right is the status, the price and the renewal date.

The name at the top is a label for your own list. Click it to change it. That is not the same as the server's own name, which lives on the Settings tab.

Power

The Server card on Overview holds four buttons.

  • Start brings the server up. Available when it is offline.
  • Restart stops it and starts it again. The normal way to pick up a configuration change.
  • Stop asks the server to shut down properly, so it saves first. Use this one.
  • Force stop cuts the process off at once. Anything it was holding in memory, such as recent world or player changes, is lost. You confirm it first.

Use Force stop only when the server has stopped responding and Stop has not worked.

The same four buttons, plus a command box, are on the Console tab, which is where you normally want to be when you start a server.

Live usage

The Live telemetry card shows the processor, memory, disk and network use while the page is open. It is read live and no history is kept, so these numbers go blank when you close the page. There is nothing to look back at later.

Addresses and ports

The Addresses card shows the address players connect to. The Network tab shows all your ports, lets you add one and lets you choose which one players use. See Ports.

While something is happening

A banner appears at the top while an operation runs, and the controls are locked until it finishes. The page refreshes itself.

If a service is suspended, every control goes read only until the outstanding invoice is settled. You can still look at everything.
